Sukhiapokhri: A Hidden Gem Nestled in Nature's Embrace

For travel-loving Bengalis, North Bengal beckons like a cool breeze whispering promises of serenity and escape. Far from the din and artifice of city life, it offers a raw, unfiltered communion with nature. And nestled amidst this verdant paradise lies Sukhiapokhri, a tranquil haven that feels like a piece of heaven kissed by the gentle touch of Mother Earth.
Reaching Your Sanctuary:
Reaching Sukhiapokhri is a breeze in itself. Dry-footed travelers arriving in Siliguri can hop on a shared taxi to Sukiya Bazaar, a mere 21 kilometers from Darjeeling. Sukhiapokhri, the "twin lakes," lies not far from there, perched at a breathtaking altitude of 7,400 feet.
Twin Beauties with Breathtaking Views:
As the name suggests, Sukhiapokhri boasts two jewel-like lakes, each reflecting the ever-changing moods of the sky. From one side, the majestic Kanchenjunga, with its snow-capped crown, reigns supreme over the horizon. Turn your gaze the other way, and the charming towns of Darjeeling and Kurseong unfold like a tapestry woven with rolling hills and quaint streets.
Concrete Embrace and a Serpentine Heart:
Concrete embankments gently cradle the twin lakes, their sturdy arms protecting their liquid treasures. At the heart of one lake, a captivating statue of a snake rises, transforming into a whimsical fountain, adding a touch of magic to the scene.
A Village Whispering Tales of Nature: Sukhiapokhri is not just about breathtaking vistas; it's also about the soul of a village nestled amidst the embrace of nature. Wander through its narrow streets and witness the unhurried rhythm of daily life. Here, time seems to slow down, allowing you to connect with the simple joys of existence.
A Bounty of Nature's Gifts: The land around Sukhiapokhri overflows with organic bounty. Witness the locals tending to their crops – plump red tomatoes, emerald green gourds, and the exotic qube fruit. Breathe in the invigorating scents of a myriad of herbs, their secrets waiting to be unraveled with the help of a friendly villager.
